Dr. Piyush Kumar, PhD (1981), King George’s Medical College, Lucknow University, India, completed post-doctoral research in the Facultѐ de Pharmacie, Nantes, France, and at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta, Canada, before joining the research faculty at the University of Alberta.
Dr. Kumar is currently a Clinical Professor (Emeritus) in the Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta, where he leads a major initiative in hypoxia research. He is also a Senior Scientist in the Edmonton PET Centre. His research interests include basic, translational and clinical research in cancer and other diseases with oxygen-deficient (hypoxic) microenvironments that resist standard therapies. Other research interests include the development of polymer-based and nanoparticle-based formulations for targeted delivery of anti-cancer theranostics. He is a co-inventor in several hypoxia-directed intellectual properties. Dr. Kumar collaborates with renowned national and international scientists and serves as an Editorial Board member and a reviewer on several scientific journals that publish in his fields of interest.
